Glimpses of Ministry - Chelsea

In the Residential Home for the Elderly, St Wilfrid's, Chelsea, the Sisters are very much part of the establishment because the Convent is an integral part of the building. (See full details on St Wilfrid's website)

  • Sr Margaret McMullan works voluntarily helping with various activities and functions for the residents, such as the regular Monday afternoon bridge, crossword and scrabble sessions, followed by afternoon tea; the monthly concerts provided by the Royal College of Music; attendance at the lunchtime talks in the National Army Museum; weekly Tuesday afternoon presence at the Christchurch Fellowship meeting in the locality; visits to the Chelsea Physic Garden with tea included. She also takes part in other religious and social events such as Ecumenical Services, cocktails in the function room and a London Underground quiz followed by afternoon tea.

  • Sr Nilda Pettenuzzo is a member of the Forum of Faiths which is supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in their Community Relations Section. She is also a member of "Churches Together" and an organisation which works for the homeless in the Borough in association with "Crisis at Christmas".

  • Sister Kathleen McKenna is a member of St Wilfrid's community but lives in Hammersmith from where she does pastoral work. She is a volunteer for the Grove Neighbourhood Centre which helps to foster links of friendship through practical help for people who might otherwise be isolated.

  • Sr.Veronica Hagen, the Provincial Superior, also lives at St Wilfrid's. The main focus of her ministry is providing support to all the Sisters and communities in the Province. She also runs the Charity from here together with Sr.Elena Pettenuzzo, the Provincial Bursar.
